For seven hours, the man stood on the ledge of the I-295 overpass, closing Route 42 below in both directions on Thursday afternoon, April 4 near Exit 14.
"We were able to get the individual some help," said New Jersey State Trooper, who declined to provide further details.
Photos at the scene show tractor trailers lined up under the bridge and police speaking to the man, standing on a ledge of the overpass.
Sometime after 9 p.m., Bellmawr police said only that the situation had been "peacefully resolved."
Frustrated drivers on social media said the incident doubled or tripled their commutes, some coming from Philadelphia.
